The proposed research project seeks to investigate the effectiveness of the “Interactive Qualitative Research Guide” (IQRG) in facilitating novice researchers’ understanding and application of qualitative research methodologies. Building on Maxwell’s (2012) exposition of the complexity and iterative nature of qualitative research, this study recognizes the challenges involved, such as managing non-linear processes, integrating theory with data, and ensuring validity. These aspects underscore the need for deep contextual understanding and sophisticated analytical skills in qualitative research. Additionally, Jones et al. (2021) have highlighted new researchers’ difficulties in achieving conceptual grounding and depth in understanding and reporting their findings. By examining how the IQRG assists in overcoming these challenges, the study will assess the tool’s capacity to provide a structured yet flexible pathway for novice researchers, thus facilitating a smoother journey through the complex landscape of qualitative research.
The research involves assessing the effectiveness of the Interactive Qualitative Research Guide (IQRG) in helping novice researchers combine theory and practice in qualitative research. Despite the acknowledged difficulties that beginners face in understanding the complexities of qualitative research, there is little empirical evidence on how interactive guides like the IQRG can help overcome these challenges. This study aims to address this gap by evaluating the extent to which the IQRG promotes a deeper understanding of qualitative research methods and facilitates their practical application in real-world research contexts.
The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to measure changes in participants’ understanding and application of qualitative research concepts before and after using the IQRG with qualitative case studies to gain deeper insights into the practical application of these concepts. Participants will include students and early-career researchers who have utilized the IQRG in their projects. The primary research questions are:
